Dec has developed its micro PTS technology suitable for pharmaceutical primary packaging applications for the aseptic filling of vials, syringes, blisters, inhalers or double chamber systems. These systems permit to accurately dose variable quantities of powder from mg to 100+ grams. Extremely versatile and able to accommodate powders with varying bulk densities, the system uses high vacuum to convey the materials and allows for highly accurate (1% RSD) and rapid dosing in less than a second.

Supplying liquid solutions in vials or pouches is still the most common way to deliver injectable drugs. However, when drugs cannot be stored in liquid form due to low stability and limited shelf life, they are usually stored in freeze-dried form and can be liquefied prior to injection by using a diluent.

The risk of a possible contamination is a major concern of the health industry and in order to overcome these issues, new drug delivery systems such as dual packaging where the powder and the diluent solution are stored in separate compartments are increasingly brought into play.
